We sped across Illinois and up to Chicago. Some places you just need to visit to claim to have been there. Just south of the Windy City, we stopped for authentic Chicago pan pizza; by newspaper reviews, the best of Chicago. It is as thick as pie, and takes 45 minutes to bake. For Californians, that is an awful long time to wait for pizza. We waited with watering mouths. To our surprise, it was almost as sweet as pie. We didn't fall in love with it, had leftovers lasting us two days.
Downtown Chicago was pretty with all the lights and the busyness. We didn't mean to drive through downtown in a 30' RV, but we missed our exit. After getting on the correct highway, and after paying our 15 cent toll, we headed for Gary IN. Yes, a 15 cent toll! Late that evening, we found Indiana Dunes State Park, with camping, showers and as far as we could tell, we got the last space. We pulled the blinds and went to bed.
