Pella Iowa - A Dutch Community

Pella was on our list of places to visit due to it's history and location. Settled by the Dutch, it is very much a Dutch community still with its bakeries, butcher shops, chocolate boutiques and windmills. Also, it is the headquarters of Pella door and windows.
When we arrived late in the evening, we had a nice picnic in the park and then strolled about the shops downtown. We couldn't wait until to walk inside them when they opened in the morning. Yes, we did, we stayed in the Wal-mart parking lot that night, we couldn't find anything else close by. We hope that we can avoid that again.

For breakfast in the morning, we patronized a Dutch bakery. Yum! Then we did walk about the shops as planned. We truly had a lovely morning. We then headed out over the country roads to experience SE Iowa, the Amish and then the Mississippi River. What a thrill.

Beautiful windmill. Jeffrey would have enjoyed the "dutch" area I'm sure. Did anyone actually speak Dutch?
